Travelling as a foot passenger

Whether it's your first time travelling as a foot passenger with us, or even if it's just been a while, we understand that you might have a few questions about what to expect. So we've put together this useful guide to help you prepare for your journey.

Before you leave home

Travel essentials

Be sure to bring everything you need to sail with us. Most importantly, you'll need:

  • A valid passport or ID for each person travelling with you
  • Your ticket or booking reference number in order to check-in

Special travel needs

If you have any special travel needs that you think may affect your journey, please get in contact with us before your departure so we can assist and help you prepare.

At your port of departure

  • Follow the signs to the Brittany Ferries terminal building and go to the Brittany Ferries desk where we will ask you for your booking reference and passport
  • You'll be given your boarding card and a ship guide containing useful information, a deck plan and safety instructions
  • If you've booked a cabin or seat, the number will be on your boarding card
  • On Pont-Aven, your boarding card also acts as your cabin key
  • Your boarding card also contains a code for the free onboard Wi-Fi
  • A waiting area can be found inside the terminal building Please listen out for any announcements calling you to board.

Boarding the ship

  • When boarding starts, please make your way to the boarding gate with your boarding card and passport ready for further inspection
  • To board Pont-Aven, you'll take a short walk up the foot passenger gangway to the ship. Foot passengers are not accepted on Connemara and Kerry to Spain but are accepted on Kerry when sailing to France.
  • Please note, if you have any mobility issues and require assistance, you'll be escorted to the gangway or taken directly on board.

Whilst on board

  • The time used on board is Irish time (all departure times are quoted in local time to the ports)
  • There is an area on Pont-Aven where you can leave larger items of luggage
  • An Information Desk on each ship is located on deck 5 or 6. Our bilingual staff will be happy to assist with any enquiries
  • Relax and enjoy the onboard experience!

Travel tip! Soap and towels are supplied in every cabin. If you are sailing without a cabin on Pont-Aven, there are public showers for you to use.

Upon arrival

  • We kindly request that you leave your cabin 30 minutes prior to arrival to help us with the cleaning for the next sailing. Please ensure that you take all your personal belongings with you
  • On overnight sailings you will receive a wake-up call, played in your cabin, approximately 60 minutes before arrival
  • An announcement will be made as to when you can leave the ship. This will normally be via the gangway. Please wait on the upper decks in the lounges until this announcement is made
