Travelling with a pet on board Pont-Aven

We look forward to welcoming you and your four-legged friend on board Pont Aven. We hope this information will help you to understand what to expect when boarding the ship, during the sailing, and again prior to disembarkation.

Arrival at port

  • Make sure your dog has had some exercise, and been toileted, before you board the ship

Check in

  • Your dog's chip will be scanned, and your Pet Passport checked
  • You will be given a sticker for the car windscreen to ensure you are parked appropriately on board
  • This sticker must remain on your windscreen until you have left your port of arrival

On board

  • Vehicles will be loaded in batches, according to the size of vehicle, and will be parked as close as possible to the lift giving best access to the kennel area on deck 10 (door E)
  • Once you are parked on board, you should remain with the vehicle, and wait to be escorted to the lift, then up to deck 10, where you will be taken to the kennels.
  • You will be given a swipe card to enable you to access the kennels throughout the sailing
  • Whilst transferring your dog, it must be on a lead and wearing a muzzle

If you have booked a kennel....

  • Kennels are open throughout the sailing and dogs may be exercised in the designated areas on decks 9 and 10

Dogs are only permitted in kennels, and designated exercise areas. They must not be taken to cabins or public areas on the ship

If you are leaving your pets (excluding dogs) in the car...

  • Ensure you open the window sufficiently to provide ventilation, and check your pet has some water to drink

Pet visits to the garage

  • Access to the garage is only permitted with a member of crew. For more information, please ask at the Information Desk on deck 6

Disembarkation

  • On arrival*, there will be an announcement inviting you to return to the kennels to collect your dog. You will then be accompanied by a member of crew to return your dog to your vehicle (* For early morning arrivals on Cork-Roscoff sailings, you will collect your dog when you are returning to your car for disembarkation)
  • Whilst transferring your dog, it must be on a lead and wearing a muzzle
  • You will then leave your pet in the vehicle and return to the passenger areas of the ship. Once the ship has docked, you will be able to return to your vehicle

N.B. In certain sea conditions, or for operational reasons, it may be necessary to vary these procedures. Please follow instructions given to you by the crew.
