Getting to and around Brittany

Regional bus services

In addition to the SNFC bus service to rural areas, Brittany also has a number of private bus companies serving all four departments of the region. These are especially useful for local and some cross-country journeys. Larger towns will usually have a bus station (gare routière), quite often situated next to the train station. However, not all these private companies will use this station as a base  - indeed you're liable to spot them departing from a variety of different pick-up points. The local tourist office will be able to help with the information you need.

Regional bus services in Brittany include

CTM: A regular service covering many routes in Morbihan. Holiday and disabled discount tickets available.

TPV: A regular service covering the area around Vannes.  Discounts for disabled persons.

BUSCO: Three bus lines serving the Beuzec-Cong/ Le Porzou; Keramporie/ Le Cablo; and Jean Jaurés/ Melgvien routes.

Island travel

The one thing all Brittany's islands have in common (unless you happen to be extremely wealthy and have a private helicopter at your disposal) is that they can only be reached by boat. Fortunately, most are well serviced with regular ferry services. Belle Ile for instance, receives several ferries a day leaving from both Quiberon and Nantes. Local tourist offices can supply you with full details of crossings and times.

Brittany's coastal waters features a number of astonishingly beautiful islands - some offer fabulous sandy beaches, others are home to innumerable forms of fascinating wildlife. Ile de Batz off the coast of Finistère is particularly noted for its exotic gardens and impressive lighthouse, while in the Gulf of Morbihan, the beaches and charms of Belle Ile (Beautiful Island) entices many of France's top stars to take regular holidays there.

Getting to Brittany

Brittany Ferries sail between Cork and Roscoff every Saturday between April and October; we also offer daily sailings from Plymouth to Roscoff and from Portsmouth to St Malo in the east. No other ferry company can offer this convenient choice of arrival ports. Together they ensure that, wherever you are planning to holiday in Brittany, you will never arrive more than just a very short drive away.
